I started at NewsWorks on Nov. 3, 2010. I came in right after that year’s election and less than two weeks before the official launch of NewsWorks.org, the news site for Philadelphia’s public media station, WHYY.
It’s been a great almost-two years, and now I’m happy to announce I’ve been promoted.
Until now, my primary job as been the “Feed Blogger.” I maintained the website’s blog to make sure it had all the latest information, whether it be from our reporters in the field, to wire copy, to news aggregated from other sources. I’ll still be doing a bit of that, but as NewsWorks continue to evolve, my position will change with it.
I’m now the Social Media Editor, meaning I maintain all of NewsWorks’ social network accounts, work one-on-one with staffers to develop policies and best practices, curate engagement and monitor stats to make sure what we’re doing on social media is growing our audience and increasing our membership.
Working at NewsWorks has been a challenging, rewarding and fun experience, which probably has a lot to do with the awesome staff. And I was grateful yesterday when my boss sent out the email announcing my new gig with some very kind words:
“I’d have a difficult time thinking of a job that is more critical to our success than this new position. That’s why I’m so pleased it goes to such a hard-working and talented journalist.”
Thanks to everyone who’s already wished me well. I’m looking forward to even more exciting stuff.
